Scott Jarkoff (aka °jark) and Matt Stephens (aka °matteo) founded deviantART together in 2000.
Now °jark has been "let go" and is no longer a member of staff. There is much speculation going on, but one thing is for sure, he didn't leave voluntarily. From the information that can be found in quite some places, this "coup" seems to move deviantART into a completely different direction, away from the community it used to be, towards a business that is mainly oriented to making money. I came here in 2003 to be part of a community, not to a corporation. If you came to see my art, I apologize. I have suspended displaying my art on this web site for the time being. More information at Jark's Journal Entry, Matteo's Journal Entry and at this place, where some (now deleted or modified) messages have been preserved to view. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on.
